iOBE Workshop @ Comp. Sci. USM

Saturday, March 20, 2021

An iOBE workshop has recently been conducted online at the School of Computer Science USM on March 15th, 2021.

Many thanks to Prof. Dr. Bahari, the Dean of CS, for this invitation, and to the Academic Team lead by Associate Professor Dr. Zurinahni for organizing this workshop, especially to Pn Maziani for the detailed arrangement and communication.

This session explained the rationale and techniques of computing the attainment of Course Learning Outcomes (CLO) for individual students and groups of students at the course and program levels, and introduced the iOBE software as a solution to automate the computation of these outcomes.

2nd iOBE Workshop @ IPPT (AMDI)

Friday, February 14, 2020

A second iOBE Workshop has been conducted at the Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI), Universiti Sains Malaysia, on 14 January 2020. This second workshop was a follow-up from the first workshop to see the progress of iOBE implementation at AMDI.

In the workshop, all four MSc programs at AMDI presented the final outcomes of their assessment data at the course and program levels, successfully demonstrating the full implementation of the iOBE software. The results produced using the software were able to highlight various aspects of outcomes attainment, and more importantly, provided clear directions to each program on how to implement further actions for Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).

Many thanks to Dr Hafiz, AMDI's Academic Deputy Director, and his academic team for organizing this workshop.

iOBE Workshop @ IPPT USM

Tuesday, May 28, 2019

Another workshop, titled "OBE Assessment: Process, Challenges, and Solutions using iOBE", has been conducted at the Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (Institut Perubatan dan Pergigian Termaju, IPPT), USM, on 27th May 2019. Many thanks to IPPT and the Academic Team headed by Dr Hafiz, the IPPT Academic Deputy Director for this invitation and for organizing the workshop.

Similar to the previous half-day workshop, it was divided into two sessions:

Session 1: Introduction (9.00 - 10.30 am)
  • Part 1: Rationale and Overview
  • Part 2: Processes, issues, and challenges
This session introduced the topic of student assessment in OBE, in particular the assessment of student and program outcomes. The session aimed to familiarize the participants with the rationale, techniques, processes, issues, and challenges in computing these outcomes.

Session 2: Implementation (11.00 am - 12.00 pm)
  • Part 3: Strategies for solutions
  • Part 4: Implementation using iOBE
This session offered a solution using a software called iOBE (designed and developed by the speaker) to automate the computation of assessment data efficiently. Techniques to produce input files, run iOBE, interpret results, and manage assessment data at the course and program levels were described and explained.

iOBE Workshop @ Health Sciences

Tuesday, March 19, 2019

Many thanks to the School of Health Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, for inviting me to run a half-day workshop on Monday, 18/3/2019. Heartfelt thanks especially to Dr. Fahmi Lim, Prof. Wan Rosli, Dr. Chang and their organizing team for the great hospitality shown while I was there. Thanks also to all the lecturers who attended my workshop.

The workshop, titled "OBE Assessment: How to do it better?", was divided into two sessions:

Session 1: Introduction (9.00 - 10.30 am)
  • Part 1: What do we have to do?
  • Part 2: What are the challenges?
This session introduced the topic of student assessment in OBE, in particular the assessment of student and program outcomes. The session aimed to familiarize the participants with the rationale, techniques, issues, and challenges in computing these outcomes.

Session 2: Implementation (11.00 am - 12.30 pm)
  • Part 3: How do we overcome them?
  • Part 4: How do we implement the solution?
This session offered a solution using a software called iOBE (designed and developed by the speaker) to automate the computation of assessment data efficiently. Techniques to produce input files, run iOBE, interpret results, and manage assessment data at the course and program levels were described and explained.

Receiving the Certificate of Appreciation from Prof. Wan Rosli
